The Institute for Industrial Management (FIR) at RWTH Aachen University is a non-profit research and educational institution focused on business organization, information logistics, and corporate IT. Its goal is to establish the foundation for the digitally integrated company of the future. FIR enhances company competitiveness through innovative solutions, conducting methodologically sound research in collaboration with industry experts. It applies research to key sectors: Future Logistics, Smart Services & Maintenance, Smart Commercial Buildings, and Smart Mobility. The institute offers research, qualification programs, and lectures in business transformation, service management, information management, and production management. As part of the Johannes-Rau-Forschungsgemeinschaft, FIR supports North Rhine-Westphalia’s research strategy and strengthens NRW’s innovation landscape. FIR leads the Smart Logistics Cluster at RWTH Aachen Campus, fostering agile, learning companies. With innovation labs and a demonstration factory, it explores IT integration and new business models through close industry collaboration.
