Biodonostia Health Research Institute (BHRI) is one of the main health research centres of Osakidetza SVS (the Basque Health Service). It was founded in Donostia-San Sebastian in 2010, and the prestigious Carlos III Institute of Health (ISCIII) has accredited it since 2011 as one of the reference Health Research Institutes in Spain. BHRI preferentially boosts translational research focusing on the patient. The research is arranged in 7 subject areas that bring together around 350 researchers in 29 groups (neurosciences, gastrointestinal and liver disorders, infectious diseases, oncology, systemic diseases, epidemiology and bioengineering)and 3 cross-cutting research (ageing and personalised medicine). It has access to state-of-the-art facilities (Animal Facility, Basque Biobank, Bioinformatics, Cell culture, Histology, Molecular Diagnostics, Genomics, 3D Printing Platform, Clinical Trials) and is also a member of several national and international platforms.
