Bacteriophages, nature's unique tool for effective food and feed safety. Bacteriophages are currently available for practical applications to combat Listeria, Salmonella, Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. In close cooperation with the quality management of a food company, our interdisciplinary research team could develop tailor-made applications. Preventive use at an early stage of production is ideal to stop unwanted bacteria from carry-over. The use of bacteriophages must be seen as part of a hurdle concept and is not a substitute for optimal process hygiene. Nor do bacteriophages function as “decontaminants”; Foodstuffs that are not marketable cannot be made marketable again. Bacteriophages are also an ideal tool for use in intensive livestock farming and aqua culture to keep healthy animals healthy at certain stages of their life cycle via a preventive approach e.g. via feed. Hereby, we make an active contribution to reduce the need for antibiotics in livestock farming. We focus on pathogens like E. coli (ETEC, EHEC, ESBL, APEC), Salmonella (including S. gallinarum), Vibrio parahaemolyticus, Clostridium perfringens and Staphylococcus aureus. In addition to the development of phage products we offer close cooperation and consultancy to develop field applications and final product formulations. We are also developing bacteriophage applications for cosmetics and veterinary medicine. https://www.finktec.com/applied-phage
